Epiphany
Epiphany (manifestation, appearance, to show).
Epiphany is defined as “the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God and Saviour of all the world.”
The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the adoration of the Christ child by the Wise Men who were guided to Jesus by the star.
It reminds us today that we too must follow the “stars” in our life that lead us to Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
We should be reminded that these “Wise” men were not swayed in any way by what they found – a child in a stable.
They were confident in the knowledge that there were following the Star of the Savior, a King who was to rule all the world.
In the Magi is represented the world, all peoples of the world.
In the Magi, all the world comes to Bethlehem to adore Jesus Christ.
In manifesting Himself to the world, the world now has a responsibility to ensure that all of mankind is fully aware that the little baby Jesus, God made man, is here on earth to save us all.
Jesus came to save the world.
We must therefore be attentive to the messages that God sends to us through our friends, relatives, priests and spiritual directors.
The wise men were filled with joy at finding the baby Jesus.
We too must remember always that it is only when we are following the path that leads to our Lord and Saviour will we know true Joy.
We must never be surprised where God takes us.
The Wise Men were not, let us learn from them and so many others in our faith’s history that have showed us how to follow the star that leads to Jesus our hope and our joy.
I remember a few years ago a very close relative was challenged with the setting of the date for the Feast of the Epiphany.
As we all know we celebrate this Feast after the Feast of the Holy Innocents.
I could understand why such a thing would confuse many.
But we have to remember that although in these feast days we do celebrate not only historical events.
We also celebrate the event.
Like Christmas, which we know is NOT the date of the birth of Jesus, we still celebrate it at this time.
It is not the when it happened that is important.
We must continue to focus on the what!
The Wise Men came to adore the Child Jesus.
They came bearing gifts.
We should contemplate that this detail could only have come from Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
She would have pondered these things in her heart for many years until asked to share the story of Jesus’ birth.
As we celebrate this feast, let us also go to Jesus and bring our gifts to Him.
Let us adore Him, Let us worship Him, Let us learn to love Him.
Have blessed day all!
