O Sacred Heart
Today we unite ourselves with the Universal Church in celebrating this Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
I love feast days, but especially a day like today, after contemplating the Body and Blood of Christ during the last eights days of the Octave of Corpus Christi we are now contemplating his most Sacred Heart.
Today as I listened to the priest speak at Mass, I was truly reminded that Jesus Christ really and truly came on earth and became one like us. With a heart just like us. When we are sorrowful we know what it feels like in our heart of hearts. We all know what it feels like to have our heart broken at the pain of losing one close to us.
I unfortunately witnessed this pain of a dear family member who laid her father to rest yesterday.
The liturgy of the funeral Mass reminded us that we die sharing in the death of Jesus Christ in order to share in His resurrection.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is that reminder to us that Jesus loves us more than we can ever know. He cares for us, we remember the times when he wept for his friends; he is sensitive to all human hospitality, asking to the leper that was cured, “Where are the other 9…. won’t there 10 that were cured?”; This feast is such a reminder to us of why Jesus came on earth.
He humbled himself to become one like us, so that we may become like Him.
When was the last time you showed mercy to someone, when was the last time you showed someone love? When was the last time you extended your hand out to help someone?
To be like the Sacred Heart we must also learn how to accept the rejection and the hurt that will often come to us because of a lack of love on other people’s part.
Just think how many times you have hurt Jesus, or how many times have you caused his heart to break in anguish at the sins that we commit.
Jesus our Saviour exposes for us his heart that we may know love and mercy.
Today sing the hymn, “O Sacred Heart”
Recite the Litany to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
And don’t forget that always very close to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is his Mother, our Mother – Immaculate Heart of Mary.
